Bing Introduces AI-Powered Image Creator

Microsoft has announced the introduction of Bing Image Creator, an AI-powered feature integrated into the new Bing and Edge preview. The tool, powered by an advanced version of OpenAI’s DALL∙E model, allows users to create images using their own words to describe the picture they want to see. This innovative feature makes the chat experience more visual and engaging for users.

Enhancing Search and Understanding with Visual Content

Research shows that the human brain processes visual information about 60,000 times faster than text. With images being one of the most searched categories, Bing Image Creator aims to address the growing demand for visual tools in search and creative processes. The feature removes the limitation of searching only for pre-existing images on the web, enabling users to generate their own visual content.

Integrated Image Creation in Bing Chat and Microsoft Edge

For those in the Bing preview, Bing Image Creator is fully integrated into the Bing chat experience and initially available in Creative mode. Users can provide a description, context, and art style to generate an image from their imagination. Bing Image Creator is also the first and only AI-powered image generator available in Microsoft Edge, accessible through the Bing Image Creator icon in the sidebar.

Ensuring Responsible Use and Deployment of AI

Microsoft and OpenAI have worked together to ensure responsible use of Bing Image Creator by incorporating safeguards and additional protections. Controls have been put in place to limit the generation of harmful or unsafe images, with the system blocking prompts and warning users if a potentially harmful image is detected. Each generated image includes a modified Bing icon to indicate that it was created using Image Creator.

Availability and Future Developments

Bing Image Creator will be rolled out to Bing preview users on both desktop and mobile. For those not in the new Bing preview, the preview experience of Image Creator is available at bing.com/create in English, with more language support to come. Bing Image Creator is also accessible in Microsoft Edge from the Image Creator icon in the sidebar. Microsoft plans to integrate Image Creator into Edge from the new Bing button in chat mode in the preview version of Edge soon.
